Peter und Paul Fest, Bretten

Bretten, a small town of 28,000, is 45" due east from Karlsruhe (by train). It officially became a city in 1254 and is renowned for its annual Peter und Paul festival, which began in 1805. We headed there today (Sunday, 1 July) to see the parade. Fabulous!

Of course, we started the day with a lunch of brats and beer. Here is Art and our  friend, John Sundquist, who was Art's HR Manager in Perry, and is visiting us for a week.
So, the parade begins.

This parade had a enormous variety of participants, including these wonderful horses.

Loved this wagon because of the fabulous decorations, namely carrots.

The festival really focused on the medieval ages, and I thought this really captured the essence of this era.

It takes a lot of patience to herd goats in a parade!

If you like men in uniform, this parade was for you!

More medieval elements in the parade.

We are now half way through the hour long parade; I took over 100 pictures.  It was hard to choose which ones to upload to my blog.

Just loved these horses.

This horse too!

After the parade, we headed to the marktplatz, which is where this picture is taken.

In the marktplatz, some wonderful half-timbered houses from the 1800's.

Example of candle making in the medieval ages.

Here is how books were made.

This is not how we make BBQ in GA.
