Weekend adventures

After spending most of Sat. waiting for DHL, we took a stroll around the neighborhood. We live in Karlsruhe Waldstadt, which is west of the town center.
The Waldstadt is a fairly affluent section of Karlsruhe. Here are typical apartments.

Here is the tram stop, which is at the end of our street. Our apartment is several hundred yards on the left. From this tram stop, it is a 45" walk to my office, or we catch the tram and then only have to walk 20".

Here is our apartment building. We live on the fourth floor, facing the street. Note the white mailboxes. More to come later about these.

On Sunday, we took a 30" tram ride out to the Rhine River. It was chilly and overcast but lots of folks were out walking up and down the levee. We walked about 90" and then called it quits and headed home for pizza at our local Italian restaurant. We are starting to be more proficient at understanding German and ordering food. We have the wine and beer vocabulary mastered!

  1. Oh, Dr. G., it sounds like you're having quite the experience in Germany! I'm so glad you're blogging while you're there. Can't wait to keep reading! :) - Amy M.

  2. Thanks, Amy. It really has been quite an adventure. Blogging is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have to get up early in the morning to upload materials to the blog as this is when my Internet works best. Have tried to upload at night, but it's way too slow. However, I'm having lots of fun taking pictures and sharing our experiences with everyone. Hope all is well with you!

  3. Helen, thank you for your wonderful descriptions! While I know every barrier is incredibly frustrating for you, it is greatly amusing to all of us here in GA! It's good to see where you are so that you aren't floating around in space in my mind...

Love to you and Art, from Jim and me!
